EBGamestop Conference Leaves Bad Impression for PS3 Launch

GamestopThe annual EB Games/Gamestop manager's conference was held in Dallas last week; from the conference, managers were supposedly to return with news regarding the company's policy/schedule regarding preorders for both the PS3 and Wii.  Unfortunately, the news is still "no news yet".  Some rumors from the show have even indicated that EB/Gamestop may not take preorders for either system.  Ars Technica has reported quotes from an anonymous Gamestop store manager:

"I asked the regional manager about PS3 preorders, and he paused and then said he can't answer the question. He said there is a plan, but they can't talk about it; we should know in a week to two weeks... Sony just didn't seem like they had a plan with the show. No plan at all. Barely a mention of the PS3, and almost nothing playable. On the other hand, I waited two hours for Gears of War. There is a feeling that Nintendo and Microsoft really set out to wow us, and Sony didn't have much to show. There was a PS3 under glass you could look at, and that's about it... It's going to be ugly, there is no way this launch is going to go well."

If EB/Gamestop, the nation's largest dedicated gaming retail chain, decides to hold the PS3 launch on a first-come-first-serve basis, we can expect for this November to be even more hectic than it would have been otherwise.  With only 400,000 units available nation wide on launch day, November 17, I was told by a manager for EB Games that each store would be lucky to recieve fifteen systems.  Ladies and gentlemen, if you've just got to get a PS3 day one, I suggest you get in line now.
