Wii Production Ahead of Schedule

Joystiq reported today that as of the end of September, Nintendo had already manufactured 2 million units of Wii hardware, with somewhere between 7 and 9 million more on track to be manufactured by the end of December.  This is in contrast to Nintendo's previous announcement that there would be 4 million systems available worldwide by the end of the year, with a target of 6 million total units by the end of the fiscal year (March 31, 2007).

If these numbers are accurate (the 7-9 mil is merely a projection), it should be easy for anyone who wants a Wii to find one in time for Christmas.  The obvious question is, if they already have this many ready, why wait until November 19th to launch the system?  The answer, of course, is to have enough time for all the launch software to be finished.  Even so, more units being made is a good thing for gamers everywhere, especially those of us who hope to see the Wii become a success.  Now if only Sony would follow suit, maybe this November wouldn't be so stressful!
